REG loses project engineer, gains general manager

Former Renewable Energy Group (REG) Project Engineer Mark Vermeer accepted a new position with HTH PowerShift Group Holdings Inc. in June. Vermeer was appointed vice president of operations for PowerShift, a privately held company that provides alternative energy solutions. While with REG, Vermeer was responsible for sales, project development, site evaluations and engineer-procure-construct services. Vermeer received his Master of Business Administration degree at the University of South Dakota and a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering at Iowa State University.

In September, Derek Winkel joined REG as general manager of Central Iowa Energy, a 30 MMgy REG biodiesel plant near Newton, Iowa. Winkel will oversee production at the facility-slated to start in spring 2007-as well as act as a liaison to the board of directors, coordinate relationships between vendors and contractors, and oversee safety and environmental regulations. He joins REG from Ethanol 2000, where he served as technical manager at the ethanol plant for five years.
