Bioheat workshops educate East Coast

In August, the North Carolina Solar Center hosted a handful of Bioheat heating oil seminars in North Carolina as part of a three-year project to educate people about the benefits of using biodiesel and Bioheat.

Nearly 100 people attended the meetings held in Asheville, Boone, Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh. Brian Gerhart, chief operating officer of Amerigreen Biofuels Inc. in Manheim, Pa., led the discussions on marketing, operations and quality control of Bioheat and biodiesel. "It is really encouraging to see this many dealers who are interested in finding ways to improve North Carolina's oil heat market," said event organizer Bryan Roy.

In addition, the solar center developed a brochure to introduce the benefits of Bioheat. The full-color publication is available at no charge to fuel distributors and consumers, and can be ordered at www.cleantransportation.org or by calling (919) 513-0852.

The solar center's three-year biodiesel marketing program began last year with a billboard project. In partnership with the North Carolina Outdoor Advertising Association, 41 billboards across North Carolina touted the benefits of biodiesel. This year, the second year of the program, focused on Bioheat market analysis and educational Web site development, in addition to the workshops and brochure. The third year of the program will involve a biodiesel bus wrap campaign that touts four Es of biodiesel: ease of use, environmental benefits, emissions reductions and local economic growth.
