EPA extends comment period on RFS information collection request
The U.S. EPA is extending the comment period on a previously announced information collection request (ICR) that aims to consolidate and update recordkeeping and reporting burden and cost estimates related to the Renewable Fuel Standard program into a single, easy-to-understand format. The EPA said the consolidation will assist interested parties in better understanding all of the information collection activities associated with the RFS.
The EPA said that in order to track compliance with the RFS program, various parties involved in the production and blending of renewable fuels, and who generate, trade or use renewable identification numbers (RINs), are required to register with EPA and submit various types of compliance reports related to the activity they engage in under the program. Recordkeeping requirements under the RFS program include product transfer documents and retention records.
According to the EPA, its new ICR will supersede and replace several existing ICRs. A full list of the existing ICRs impacted is available in a document published in the Federal Register.
A 60-day comment period on the matter was originally opened in December 2017. A new notice published by the EPA on Nov. 13 allows for an additional 30-day comment period that closes Dec. 13. Comments can be submitted on www.Regulations.gov under EPA-HQ-OAR-2017-0599. Additional information is available on the Federal Register website.
