Support biodiesel science on Giving Tuesday

Want to fight climate change? Concerned about air quality? Want to support domestic job creation while reducing oil imports? Good news, you can help with these worth-while causes on Dec. 2, Giving Tuesday, through a donation to the National Biodiesel Foundation. The NBF has set a goal of raising $100,000 for biodiesel education, research and infrastructure development during this annual day of giving.

“Despite the clear benefits of biodiesel, its continued use is threatened. Biofuel opponents are backed by deep pockets and unsubstantiated messages,” stated Executive Director Tom Verry. “We need to work together to assist scientists in providing irrefutable data to show that biodiesel is improving the air we breathe, reducing our dependence on foreign oil, and safeguarding our environment.”

Biodiesel is the first advanced biofuel commercially produced across the country. The industry has produced more than a billion gallons each of the last three years with a record of nearly 1.8 billion gallons in 2013. That production supported more than 60,000 domestic jobs. Using biodiesel reduces lifecycle carbon emissions 60 to 80 percent compared to petroleum with 2013’s record use reducing 19 million tons of carbon, equivalent to taking four million cars off of American roadways. All this has led to lower pollution levels and improved air quality across the country.

You can be a part of a better tomorrow by supporting NBF in their mission by making a donation at www.biodieselfoundation.org

The National Biodiesel Foundation is a nonprofit organization that works closely with the biodiesel industry trade association, the National Biodiesel Board, for the advancement of biodiesel. Through outreach, education, research, and demonstration activities, the foundations works to address national issues affecting us all—clean air, economic development for rural communities, and enhanced national security through energy independence.

Giving Tuesday refers to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and is designed as a day to give back. Beginning in 2012, the movement began as a way to follow the post-Thanksgiving consumer shopping holidays of Black Friday and Cyber Monday with a charitable day. On Tuesday, Dec. 2, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
