Johanns appoints USB members

November 1, 2005

In an effort to help increase the demand for U.S. soybeans, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns has selected 19 soybean farmers-directors to serve on the United Soybean Board (USB). Johanns appointed seven new farmers and reappointed 12 previous farmer-directors to the USB, bringing the total of board directors to 64 from 28 states.

Each USB director volunteers his or her time while serving a three-year term where they create and oversee programs to increase domestic and international utilization of U.S. soybeans. "We (USB) must meet the competition from our global competitors, such as expanding the use of soy-based products like soy biodiesel," said Greg Anderson, USB chairman
