UOP, Neste Oil receive Hart Energy award

Houston, Texas-based Hart Energy, a global energy publishing and consulting group, recently announced six recipients of its annual Energy and Environment Excellence award, two of which are focused on developing technology to convert waste oils and animal fats into green or renewable diesel.
This is the eighth consecutive year that Hart has given out the awards, which were presented during the company's World Energy Solutions Conference Nov. 6-7 in Houston. The award is meant to recognize companies with achievements in technology and innovation made across the entire energy cycle, from exploration and production to refining and retail of traditional energy sources, as well as the development of alternative fuel sources.
Winners were selected by a panel of 100 industry leaders in sustainable energy solutions from across the globe.
Illinois-based UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, was selected for its Ecofining process, jointly developed with Italy-based Eni S.p.A., which uses a hydroprocessing technology to convert feedstocks containing vegetable oil and wastes into green diesel fuel.
Finland's Neste Oil also received an award for the development of their renewable diesel technology NExBTL, a conversion process for crude vegetable oils and animal fats. The company's first NExBTL facility went on-line at Neste Oil's Porvoo, Finland, refinery in summer 2007; the company's second facility is slated to begin production in 2009.
Other award recipients included Schlumberger Ltd., Motiva Enterprises LLC, Toyota Motor Corp., and Fluor Corp.
