Beacon Energy Holdings Inc. announced Jan. 7 it had reduced the workforce at its Cleburne, Texas, biodiesel refinery by approximately 30 percent. Production has also been temporarily reduced at the facility while the company works through its existing fuel inventory.
According to a press release issued by the company, these actions were taken in an effort to reduce expenses and more closely match production levels with current biodiesel sales demand. The duration of the scale-back will be determined by numerous factors, included anticipated future sales volume.
"The reduction will still permit the plant to operate to meet customer demands, but will allow the company greater flexibility in quickly increasing or decreasing production rates based on anticipated sales," Beacon Energy Holdings said in a statement.
According to information provided by Beacon Energy Holdings, the company is invested in facilities with total production capacities of more than 15 MMgy. Approximately 36 percent of the company's stock is owned by Metalico Inc., a holding company.
According to Biodiesel Magazine's plant list, Beacon Energy Holdings' Cleburne facility has a production capacity of 12 MMgy. The plant began operation in 2006 and uses animal fats as its primary feedstock.
