The holiday season includes much to love-big meals, family, gifts. Of course, for many, holidays also mean travel. Whether it's an overnight stay to visit in-laws or a winter getaway with friends, there are more opportunities than ever to make biodiesel a part of the plans. What may be surprising is that those opportunities extend beyond just getting from here to there.
In fact, hotels across the nation are using biodiesel. For example, the Hilton Americas–Houston hotel relies on biodiesel to power emergency generators. In a bid for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, certification, the hotel turned to cleaner burning biodiesel as an alternative fuel. The 1,203-room hotel received its first shipment this summer.
Bioheat heating oil is also a popular staple in many Northeast hotels and bed and breakfasts. Though not always a part of marketing materials, hotel proprietors are always happy to provide details when asked.
So as you make plans to spend time with friends and relatives, consider using those establishments that use and support biodiesel.
