Green with envy: NBB show recognized as a Top 10 green conference
February 23, 2010
The National Biodiesel Board has been ranked as having one of the Top 20 Sustainable Business Conferences by Sustainable Industries magazine. The publication ranked the National Biodiesel Conference & Expo ninth in the nation.
The NBB first began greening the National Biodiesel Conference & Expo in 2006, the third year for the conference. Ever since, we have been a leader in sustainable practices, believing that being environmentally friendly shouldn't stop at the tailpipe.
Efforts to ensure the national event generates as little waste as possible include:
• Waste Reclamation-NBB provides stations to give attendees and exhibitors a convenient way to recycle glass, bottles, plastic, aluminum, paper and cardboard.
• Digital Marketing-wherever possible NBB uses technology to reach our target market rather than print and direct mail.
• Responsible Printing-whenever possible we use FSC-certified or recycled paper and soy inks.
• Energy Offsetting-thanks to Renewable Choice Energy, NBB offsets the energy used at the convention center by purchasing wind energy certificates that benefit low-income communities.
• Sponsor & Vendor Outreach-we encourage our sponsors and vendors to join us in our mission, outlining many ways that each company can reduce its impact from the Expo Hall.
NBB's greenness doesn't stop with the annual meeting. The organization also built a green building in Jefferson City, Mo., with features such as solar-powered parking lot lights, nontoxic paint, and carpet made from recycled materials.
