Former university of Iowa professor Jon Van Gerpen has been appointed professor and head of the University of Idaho's (UI) Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BAE). According to a UI announcement, Van Gerpen joined the university July 15. The department is recognized worldwide as a pioneer in the biodiesel research industry.
Van Gerpen's research expertise is in internal combustion engines, alternative fuels and the formation of pollutants. He has partnered with UI in a near million-dollar, five-year project to educate the country about the use of biofuels.
