Editor's Note

By Tom Bryan | December 01, 2004
At the risk of making a milestone out of a molehill (and mixing metaphors), I'd like to announce that Biodiesel Magazine has officially completed its first year. This particular issue, which serves as our sixth and final issue of 2004, is also the first of nine issues to be published in 2005. That sounds a little odd, I know, ending and beginning years with the same issue. But don't worry, our subscribers aren't getting shorted; they're simply getting more Biodiesel Magazine for their buck in 2005. Starting with this issue, we will now publish the magazine nine times per year, expanding from the every-other-month format we started with in 2004. Additional 2005 cover dates will include February, March, April/May, June, July, August/September, October and November.

Ramping up our frequency was made possible by the support of our advertisers, our readers and certainly the backing of the National Biodiesel Board (NBB). For about three months now, our editorial team has been collaborating with the NBB staff on ways to better serve our subscribers and its members, most of which share a common goal of seeing the international production and use of biodiesel grow.
And growing it is.

Minnesota's first large-scale biodiesel plant came on line in early December (see page 11) and as our lead story, "Blue Means Go," on page 20, explains, Blue Sun Biodiesel just unveiled a state-of-the-art biodiesel blending terminal in Colorado that builds upon existing distribution infrastructure in the region.

Consumer demand for biodiesel is on the rise, too. Winter is upon us; North Dakota was in the grips of a pretty good cold snap at press time. In the Northeast, thousands of residential and commercial heating oil consumers are turning to "bioheat"-No. 2 heating oil blended with biodiesel-and that's something distributors can easily warm up to. In the words of Bob Warren, owner of Fisher Churchill Oil and Mass Biofuels in Dedham, Mass., "It's a better, cleaner fuel."
