DaimlerChrysler and NBB host Ride and Drive

December 1, 2004

DaimlerChrysler and NBB garnered media attention for the Jeep Liberty Common Rail Diesel (CRD) with a Liberty CRD Ride and Drive and press conference at NBB's board meeting Nov. 17. All of these SUVs will be filled with B5 biodiesel at the Toledo, Ohio, factory when production begins. Board members were among the first in the nation to drive the much-anticipated Liberty CRD.

"I thought it was a great ride," said Mike Clark, a farmer outside Dayton, Ohio, and a member of NBB who participated in the Ride and Drive. "It's smooth, quiet and has a lot of pick-up. I'd love to have one."

Press conference speakers included NBB Executive Director Joe Jobe; then-NBB Chairman Bob Metz; Kevin Herdler, St. Louis Clean Cities Coordinator; and Loren Beard, DaimlerChrysler Senior Manager-Energy Programs.

The Jeep Liberty diesel, the first diesel-powered mid-size SUV to be offered in the United States, will achieve approximately 30 percent better fuel efficiency than Liberty's comparable 3.7-liter V-6 gasoline engine. Diesel engines also reduce emissions of greenhouse gases by 20 percent compared with gasoline engines.
