Florida Biodiesel Inc. recently announced the sale of two lab-scale biodiesel processors made by 70CentsaGallon.com to L T Scientific Inc. According to the company, the biodiesel production equipment will be exported to Germany and used for fuel technology research.

L T Scientific purchased the B-15 model of processor. Information released by Florida Biodiesel notes that the model can be assembled in 60 minutes and used to produce 10-gallon batches of ASTM biodiesel. According to Victor Garlington, director of client services at 70CentsaGallon.com, the processor can take in oil virgin oils, as well as used oils and animal fats. “The B-15 is very user friendly and great for small footprint applications,” Garlington said.

70CentsaGallon.com currently supplies seven different models of biodiesel processors. The largest model can produce approximately 2,400 gallons in a 12-hour period. “We have some automated units and some non-automated units,” Garlington said. The larger automated units also include a variety of bells and whistles, such as methanol recovery, that the lab-scale B-15 model does not, he added.

The B-15 processor was developed in response to a client request. The new model is a smaller version of the B-16, which is applicable for home production. According to Garlington, his company expects the new model to be utilized by schools for educational purposes, as well as laboratories. The company has also been actively serving the overseas market. In fact, Garlington estimates that for every U.S.-based customer, his company works with five overseas customers.

Garlington also noted that 70CentsaGallon.com is also supplies an enzymatic product. “If you are dealing with a high-FFA material, you can use enzymes instead of acid, pressure or methanol—you can use enzymes and methanol to accomplish the same task,” he said. One of the benefits of using enzymatic processing, he added, is that it can result in significant cost savings.
