SynDiesel Project X Beetle to attempt land speed record May 12
SynDiesel brand is bringing the Project X Diesel “The Beetle” to the inaugural land speed in Houston May 12. The land speed event is the first hosted by Sealy, Texas-based Hennessey Performance and is held in conjunction with a charity event called “Aeros and Autos” at the City of Houston’s Ellington Airport. Hennessey remarked, “We will be hosting the first annual Houston Half Mile Shootout on the 8,000-ft.-long runway.”
The Project X Beetle is a super tuned VW Turbo Diesel Beetle with many performance upgrades developed by Greg Hogue and his many sponsors. Hogue said, “We are getting almost 200 horsepower per liter and have to manage the throttle to control the power.” The fuel for the record attempt will be the SynDiesel B5 diesel racing fuel. The same fuel used by Mike Woods to set the diesel land speed record of 205 miles per hour at the Texas Mile in his Mustang Duramax. The same fuel was also used in the VW Jetta TDI Cup and fully approved in 2009 to use in all Volkswagen TDI clean diesel powered vehicles available at local Volkswagen dealerships today.
The addition of SynDiesel B5 diesel fuel in the Project X Beetle race car further demonstrates the feasibility of biodiesel as an alternative fuel source for American consumers, and supports the clean and green racing.
Jordan Leighton will be at the wheel after earning her 160 mph land speed racing license at the Texas Mile earlier this year. Jordan is excited at setting the bar for 2-liter and under diesel coupe. “I really want to push The Beetle to the limit for my team, now that the cap is off,” Leighton said.
