Biodiesel access improves throughout nation

July 1, 2006

The growth of biodiesel continues, not only in the number of plants opening, but in the ease of fuel flowing to consumers. New terminal and retail openings in the past month highlight that growth.

Terminal access near Chicago
Distributors will now have greater ease acquiring biodiesel in the Chicago area. In May, two automated blending facilities opened. Wolf Lake Terminal in Hammond, Ind., and Western Petroleum Co. in Argo, Ill., will offer rack injection 24 hours per day. Gulf Hydrocarbon, a member of the National Biodiesel Board (NBB), supplies fuel to Wolf Lake. The NBB estimates that 27 terminals have made investments to make biodiesel a significant part of their businesses.

First B20 pump in regional Georgia
Davis Oil celebrated Middle Georgia's first B20 pump opening May 5. At the ribbon cutting in Centerville, the Middle Georgia Clean Cities Coalition said that local citizens use more than 1.4 million gallons of biodiesel. Now the fuel will be more convenient to the area's users. U.S. Biofuels of Rome, Ga., an NBB member, supplies the biodiesel to the retailer.

New Iowa pumps
Des Moines diesel drivers can "go bio" more easily now. Biodiesel is available in soy-based B10 at some Krueger BP Amoco stations in Des Moines. According to the Iowa Soybean Association, Krueger is one of the first retail fuel companies in central Iowa to offer soy biodiesel to both on-road vehicles (semi-trucks) and consumer vehicles. There are three Krueger BP area locations where consumers can purchase B10:
>14th Street NE in Des Moines
>9th Street SW in Des Moines
>54th Avenue NW (Hwy 141) in Grimes, Iowa
