Additive lowers cloud point

January 1, 2009

Researchers at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia, have developed an additive that lowers the cloud point for tallow-based biodiesel from 50 degrees to 21 degrees Fahrenheit, increasing the potential for using tallow-based biodiesel in colder climates. The $1 million project to develop the additive was largely funded by Meat and Livestock Australia, which has secured a provisional patent for the technology. Meat and Livestock is partnering with The Midfield Group, and Food Processing Equipment to commercialize the additive.
