Biodiesel Cold Weather Blending Study released

November 1, 2005

The Biodiesel Cold Flow Consortium, a National Biodiesel Board (NBB)-created collaboration of biodiesel producers, petroleum marketers, fuel blenders and various interested experts, teamed up with the NBB to study biodiesel blending in cold weather. The outcome: the Biodiesel Cold Weather Blending Study.

Three types of biodiesel and unadditized No. 1 and No. 2 diesel fuels were used. A variety of 2 percent biodiesel blends were produced in both splash and injection blending. Results showed that biodiesel must be kept 10 degrees Fahrenheit above its cloud point for successful blending during cold weather.
