Biodiesel Magazine hosts free cold flow improver webinar Dec. 20

December 13, 2017

BY BBI International

Biodiesel Magazine is hosting a free webinar Dec. 20 titled “Keeping the Flow: A Crash Course on Biodiesel Cold Flow Improvers.” With more private and government fleets using biodiesel than ever before, it has never been more important to learn about the basics of cold flow improvers (CFIs)—why they are needed, how they work, and the various options for different applications.

The webinar will feature three experts from leading additive companies: Brian Hess, technical manager with Evonik Oil Additives; Erik Bjornstad, director of technical sales at Bell Performance; and Werner Reimann, senior fuel additives specialist with Clariant. Ron Kotrba, editor of Biodiesel Magazine, will moderate the event.

Highlights of the presentations include discussion of typical fatty acid methyl ester (biodiesel) composition and why B100 can have low-temperature problems; CFIs and how they can help improve B100 performance; and information on various parameters used to measure cold flow performance, including pour point, cloud point, cold filter plugging point and cold soak filtration. There will be additional focus on guidelines and best practices for treating biodiesel blends for cold-weather handling. Furthermore, factors will be recommended to consider when planning and implementing cold-flow protection.

Attendees will be able to submit questions during the webinar, and a Q&A session will be held with the experts after their presentations.
