A blog or two ago, I mentioned that Biomass Magazine’s bimonthly supplementary title, Pellet Mill Magazine, would likely be doing a story on how low fuel oil prices and warmer-than-usual weather have affected their businesses.
That article is now in the works, but we need some help from those of you who are making pellets. The story, which will delve into how the heating season is playing out, where it might end up, fuel oil prices and its impact on sales, etc., will unfold mostly through data obtained via survey.
Here are a couple of sample questions:
How would you describe this heating season’s sales when compared to last years?

When compared to last year how would you describe the prices you are able to charge for pellets?
I should note that producers can choose to remain anonymous if they wish.

Pellet Mill Magazine is in the process of building the online survey right now, so check back here very soon for the link—it should be posted no later than Mon., Feb. 1.
UPDATE:
Check your emails pellet producers! Pellet Mill Magazine’s online survey has been sent out and will be open until close of business Mon., Feb. 15. If you are a producer and did not receive an email, please contact Pellet Mill Magazine Associate Editor Katie Fletcher at kfletcher@bbiinternational and she will email you further information, as well as a link to the survey.
And a side note, in continuance from last week’s blog, the U.S. EPA has set a date for its Clean Power Plan biomass workshop. I’m thrilled they will be broadcasting it live via the web, so anyone who wants access has it, and for free. Agenda coming soon, stay tuned.
