Canadian Green Fuels Inc. is investing approximately $50 million to become the largest biofuels processing plant in the world.
Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Green Fuels, Mike Shenher announced April 4 plans for the largest biofuels processing plant in Canada. The multi-million dollar project includes building a new plant and upgrading the existing Canadian Green Fuels plant in Regina, Saskatchewan.
"We expect these plants to have the capacity to produce 240 million liters (63 MMgy) of biofuel products a year and be considered a "green" plant, as all aspects of the plant and waste products are used to create revenue," Shenher said, adding total revenue from the two plants could bring potential revenues of approximately $300 million per year.
The new plant, which is expected to produce approximately 52 MMgy (200 million liters), will run on energy it creates and is expected to produce biodiesel, biofuels, bio-oil, and bio-additives. The plant will crush 1,200 metric tons daily, and operate equipment that can crush any oil seed.
The sheer scale of the facility puts the operation at an elevated level, Shenher said. "This is a world-class facility as it marries two major operations by including one of the largest oil seed crushing facilities in the country with the largest biofuel processing and production system."
Shenher said Canadian Green Fuels is well positioned to be leaders of the multi-billion dollar facility and industry. "What makes this real is that we are currently operational, earning revenues and producing in the market," Shenher said.
In addition to the announcement of the planned facility, Canadian Green Fuels introduced Troy Metz as the company's new chief development officer. "Troy was brought on to globalize Canadian Green Fuels and to take us public," Shenher said.
"Once we hit the ground, our model expects that we could begin building profitability with 90 days of starting the equipment," Metz said. "A plant this size would probably need in excess of 460 metric tons a year of oil seed and what makes us unique is our capability to crush any oil yielding seed, not just canola."
Metz believes the plant will create what he calls an "oil patch [of] above ground oil" and said this will bring revenue, jobs opportunities and growth for the province.
