Construction begins on Clymers, Ind., ethanol plant

The Andersons Inc. has completed the necessary funding arrangements and begun construction on a new ethanol facility in Clymers, Ind., expected to be the largest dry-mill plant east of the Mississippi River, producing 110 MMgy. ICM Inc. of Colwich, Kan., will be the design/builder and process technology provider. Corn will be the primary feedstock.
The plant, The Andersons Clymers Ethanol LLC, will be managed by The Andersons Inc. "The Andersons will be marketing the ethanol and the distillers dried grains and also doing the originations of the corn as well," said Gary Smith, vice president of finance and treasurer for The Andersons Inc., which operates 13 agriculture-related business units in 10 Indiana counties. These include four grain terminals, which handle over 50 million bushels of grain annually. Completion of the Clymers plant is scheduled for the first quarter of 2007. This facility is expected to produce 110 MMgy and 350,000 tons of distillers dried grains.
The Andersons also has a 44 percent equity holding in The Andersons Albion Ethanol LLC in Albion, Mich., and an 8 percent share in Iroquois BioEnergy Company LLC in Rensselaer, Ind. Both of these plants are under construction and are expected to begin ethanol production in 2006. The Albion plant is expected to produce 55 MMgy, and the Rensselaer plant is expected to produce 40 MMgy.
