DuPont to expand production of sodium methylate

April 25, 2007

DuPont has announced it has reached an agreement with InChem Corp. to produce sodium methylate, a catalyst used in the production of biodiesel. The chemical will be produced using sodium from DuPont, which is the lone supplier of sodium methylate produced in North America. In response to growing demand for the product from the biodiesel industry, DuPont is also planning to expand production of sodium methylate, adding at least two production locations in the United States.

"With demand for biodiesel fuel increasing in the United States, producers will require greater quantities of this compound," DuPont Chemical Solutions Enterprise Global Business Manager Ken Hilk said. "This agreement, based on a long-term commitment, is one element of a DuPont initiative to expand the sodium methylate supply and an example of our commitment to provide unique solutions for the biofuels industry."

DuPont sodium methylate is available in solutions of 25 percent and 30 percent. More information is available at www.dupont.com/sodium.
