Ethanol industry links up in Colorado Springs

October 1, 2003

The first annual BBI Golf Invitational was held on Sept. 8-9 at the Broadmoor Resort Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colo. Nearly 40 golfers from all walks of the industry played two of the toughest courses in the state.

"The golf was tough," said Maurie Beto of Novozymes, "but it was a great opportunity to network with others in the industry and to gain a better understanding of how the energy bill is moving through Congress."

Bob Dinneen, president of the Renewable Fuels Association spoke, at the evening dinner hosted by BBI. Dinneen talked about how the energy bill was advancing and the role that ethanol would likely play in final legislation. Dinneen was peppered with questions from the audience, hungry for information on the fate of the energy and ethanol legislation.

"It was an excellent venue and an opportunity to better understand the perspective and concerns of others in the industry," Dinneen said.

This was the first golf event sponsored by BBI and it may not be the last, according to BBI President Mike Bryan. "We just felt that so many of the meetings are pretty formal events and that it would be fun to get together in a less formal environment but still be able to talk business. This provided the perfect setting and we hope it is the first of many more to come."

Since it is an invitational, BBI hopes to limit it to no more than 75 golfers per year. That way, according to Bryan, "We can keep it intimate, yet have enough people to represent a good cross-section of the industry." EP
