Watertown, S.D.-based Glacial Lakes Energy LLC has been recognized with an award for their outstanding stewardship in protecting employees, the public, and the environment.

Glacial Lakes Energy received the 2007 Product Stewardship Award in March from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Co. The recognition was in great part for the responsibility "demonstrated by zero tank-car non-accident releases in 2007," said Tom Branhan, chief executive officer of Glacier Lakes Energy.

Branhan said the company is strongly committed to quality and safety. "Our grains department works diligently with safety in mind when working with rail cars and in all aspects of service," he said. "Our company, as well as our employees, pride ourselves in maintaining a safe workplace and it is very gratifying to see others recognize the hard work and diligence of our efforts."

The Outstanding Stewardship Award is given to companies who successfully implement the ethics of product stewardship under the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care initiative.
