Watertown, S.D.-based Glacial Lakes Energy LLC's wastewater system and compliance with the state's surface water discharge has been recognized with an award.

The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources awarded the 2007 Industrial Operation and Maintenance Excellence Award to Glacial Lakes Energy during the 2008 South Dakota Water and Wastewater Association Seminar held in Oacoma, S.D., in March.

Glacier Lakes Energy is the only ethanol plant in South Dakota to receive the award four consecutive years in a row. "Glacial Lakes Energy has proven we are dedicated to being amongst the best in the business," said Tom Branhan, chief executive officer of Glacial Lakes Energy.

Qualifications for the awards are based on a system's compliance with the state's environmental requirements, discharged water quality, monitoring reports, state inspections, and proper operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment facility.
