Helius Energy PLC, a biomass power developer in the United Kingdom, has appointed Oliver Blundell as feedstock director and will work to expand the company's program in developing sustainable biomass supply chains. Blundell previous held a number of roles within the Cargill group. Most recently, he was based in Geneva and was responsible for developing fuel supply chains for planned biomass projects and assessing energy markets.

Helius Energy is developing a series of large and small biomass power plants across the United Kingdom. Earlier this year, the company announced that it had signed an option on land for a proposed 100-megawatt biomass power plant at Avonmouth Dock. In January, Helius Energy said it had received planning permission on a joint venture with Rothes Distillers Ltd. to install a biomass-fueled combined heat and power (CHP) plant to the distillery. The CHP unit will use a combination of distillery coproducts and wood chips to generate 7.2 megawatts of electricity. The company has sold its flagship project -a 65 megawatt project at Stallingborough - to RWE Innogy GmbH and will maintain a long-term interest in the project. Planning approval, long-term feedstock and construction agreements are in place for the Stallingborough project.
