Illinois bill requires E85

March 27, 2007

The Illinois legislature unanimously passed and Gov. Rod Blagojevich subsequently signed House Bill 4137, which states that all automobiles purchased with state funds are required to be flexible-fuel vehicles (FFVs), B5-compatible vehicles or fuel-efficient hybrids, effective June 1. Certain exceptions are allowed. This is an extension of Blagojevich's 2004 executive order, which encouraged the state's fleet managers to purchase FFVs "whenever possible." Because of the executive order, agencies purchased more than 400 FFVs in fiscal year 2006.
