The Iowa Biodiesel Board is expressing gratitude and applauding recent state legislative activity assisting Iowa companies that make investments in the renewable fuels infrastructure. The IBB is now looking to Iowa Gov. Chet Culver to sign the legislation.

On April 24 the Iowa House and Senate passed the legislation which aims to advance renewable fuel by providing infrastructure associated with storing, blending, and dispensing renewable fuel.

House File 2689 includes provisions that increase grant amounts and cost-share percentages for biodiesel terminal infrastructure and retailer enhancements. Under the legislation retailers are eligible to apply for multiple awards for biodiesel and E85 improvements at the same site. The legislation also calls for the state to launch a marketing campaign focused on consumer education about biodiesel use and its benefits.

"The Iowa Biodiesel Board and its members worked hard to communicate the biodiesel industry's needs and concerns to legislators and we appreciate the positive response," said Randy Olson, executive director of IBB. "It's clear they share our belief that renewable fuels are vital to Iowa's economic success."

Launched in July 2007, the IBB's promotes commercial biodiesel in Iowa. Members represent all aspects of the industry, including all of Iowa's fourteen operational biodiesel plants.
