John Deere offers ethanol crop insurance

March 10, 2008

Corn growers with delivery contracts for ethanol plants can now purchase insurance for yield shortfalls if a harvest falls below contracted amounts and the replacement price exceeds the farmer's underlying insurance coverage. The plan will be available through a multi-peril insurance policy offered by John Deere Risk Protection. It also requires that the ethanol plant procure the replacement bushels of corn, so farmers don't need to find replacement grain themselves. The coverage will be available in 10 Midwestern states.
