KLM, AlgaeLink to explore algae for jet fuel

July 14, 2008

Dutch companies AlgaeLink NV and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will cooperate on a pilot-scale project to develop an alternative aviation fuel from algae. The exclusive agreement was announced at the Future Fuels Aviation Summit in London in April. "Because of our expertise in optimizing algae growth in a photobioreactor (PBR), and the extraction of biomass and oil out of the PBR, they came to us," said Hans van de Ven, managing director of AlgaeLink.
