New cetane measurement tool available

December 1, 2005

Based on a constant volume combustion apparadus, developed by the Southwest Research Institute, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, a new way to measure cetane, a number that indicates ignition quality in diesel fuel, is a variable. The new Ignition Quality Tester (IQT), accepted as ASTM 6890D/IP 498, is a combustion-based analytical instrument that efficiently and accurately determines cetane values in diesel and biodiesel in minutes. The IQT provides faster, more accurate results than traditional ASTM D613/IP41 tests and has been adopted by major international pil companies for routine quality control.
