Novozymes to build Nebraska facility

Denmark-based Novozymes, one of the world's leading enzyme production companies, has announced it will build and operate an enzyme production facility in Blair, Neb.
Construction on the facility, which will be located on 30 acres of property 25 miles north of Omaha, Neb., is expected to begin later this year and should be complete by 2010. The total cost for the project is expected to be between $80 million and $100 million.
"We are very excited about expanding our enzyme manufacturing operations in the U.S.," said Peder Holk Nielson, executive vice president and head of Novozyme's enzyme business. "Initially, the focus of the new plant will be to supply enzymes for corn-based ethanol and enzymes for cellulosic ethanol start-ups."
Nielson added that the plant will be designed for future expansions in order to meet the expected increase in demand for enzymes for cellulosic ethanol.
Novozymes has production and research facilities around the world. The company currently operates U.S. facilities in Davis, Calif., Franklinton, N.C., and Salem, Virg.
