NTBE gains rights to market CANMET's cetane additive

March 1, 2005

North Texas Bio-Energy LLC (NTBE) of Dallas and CANMET Energy Technology Centre, a research arm of Natural Resources Canada, have entered into a licensing agreement for NTBE's use of CANMET's patented Super-Cetane technology. CANMET's cetane improver is a biodiesel additive used to lower NOx emissions. The additive is made from a variety of feedstocks, but the catalytic hydrotreating results in a high cetane product, said Dan Foster, managing director of NTBE. In using this additive, biodiesel producers can market their product in "non-attainment" cities, or cities where air pollution like NOx exceeds acceptable levels, as designated by the U.S. EPA.
