OSU students lead biodiesel program

October 1, 2004

The student-created Oregon State University (OSU) Biodiesel Initiative has received a $10,000 grant from the EPA for its proposal to research biodiesel and will compete in a national competition in Washington, D.C., this May. The competition winner receives a larger grant to help implement its proposal. The OSU group, which formed in 2003, uses waste cooking oil from the campus dining facilities as a production feedstock. They hope to power campus equipment with biodiesel and identify the feasibility of full-scale biodiesel production in Oregon's Willamette Valley.
