Pennsylvania awards $624,000 for biodiesel projects

The Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority has approved a total of $624,000 in Alternative Energy Investment Fund grants to develop and expand biodiesel operations in Pennsylvania.

Susquehanna Smart Fuel LLC of Montoursville, Pa., was awarded $462,000 to increase canola oil biodiesel feedstock production by 120,000 gallons per year. The company was presented the PAgrows and Center for Farm Transitions Value-Added Excellence Award by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Aug. 19 during the state's Ag Progress Days in Rock Springs, Pa. The company also sells food-grade canola oil.

Eagle Bio Diesel of Elk County, Pa., has been awarded $162,020 to develop a biodiesel plant that initially will produce 792,000 gallons of biodiesel annually using waste vegetable oil as a feedstock.
