Pacific Gas & Electric Co. is seeking proposals from renewable energy developers to build projects for a new clean energy program available to customers. Solar, wind and biomass are among the eligible technologies.

According to PG&E, it is specifically targeting small- and mid-sized renewable projects in Northern and Central California. Projects can range from 0.5 to 20 MW. Renewable energy produced at these facilities will benefit the company’s Regional Renewable Choice program.

The program, launched earlier this year, initially focused on solar energy, allowing residential and business customers to enroll with PG&E to support the development of new projects in Northern and Central California. An updated version of the program is expanding renewable energy access by enabling customers to work directly with developers of new renewable energy projects.

The program gives customers the option to work with developers and subscribe to the output from a new renewable project equaling 25 to 100 percent of their electricity use. Participating customers pay the developers for the energy directly and receive a bill credit from PG&E on their monthly statements.

PG&E is currently seeking proposals for the development of 75 MW of renewable energy sources. Proposals can be submitted Aug. 31 through Sept. 30. According to the company, developers will be chosen through a competitive bidding process and are expected to be chosen by December. Two additional requests for proposals are expected to be issued in 2017.
