President, biodiesel backers call for investment in alternative fuels
June 1, 2006
The same week that Joe Jobe, CEO of the National Biodiesel Board (NBB), testified to the U.S. Senate on the biofuels industry, President George W. Bush spoke at the Renewable Energy Summit in Washington, D.C. There, Bush said he supports biodiesel as part of his energy strategy to encourage conservation, expand domestic production and develop alternative sources of energy. Jobe helped moderate the summit, held April 25.
Bush said that research and development has brought about alternatives like biodiesel. "So that's one of the reasons why I signed into law the first ever federal tax credit for biodiesel," he said.

Tom LaSorda of DaimlerChrysler also spoke that day. "A significant part of the solution to our energy, environment and national security issues can be homegrown," LaSorda said. He also talked about working with the industry toward a higher biodiesel blend acceptance, promising clean diesel automobile introductions in the United States. DaimlerChrysler is a proponent of biodiesel, with a Jeep Liberty CRD B5 factory fill and B20 acceptance for fleet-use Dodge Rams
