The U.S. Department of Energy has announced the Biomass Research and Development Technical Advisory Committee will hold an opening meeting in Arlington, Virginia, on Nov. 15-16.
The meeting aims to develop advice and guidance that promotes research and development leading to the production of biobased fuels and biobased products.
The tentative agenda of the meeting includes an update on USDA and DOE biomass research and development activities, as well as presentations from government and industry that provide insights on the regulatory barriers impacting bioenergy growth.
Members of the public are welcome to observe the business of the committee. Additional information on how to attend the meeting and/or make oral statements regarding items on the agenda is available in a notice published in the Federal Register. Written statements may also be filed with the committee before or after the meeting.

The committee currently includes more than 30 members, including those representing Archer Daniels Midland Co., Enerkem, Poet, BioAmber Inc., Drax Biomass, the Advanced Biofuels Association, BioFerm Energy Systems, and Genera Energy Inc. The U.S EPA on July 17 released data showing more than 1.9 billion RINs were generated under the RFS during June, down 11% when compared to the same month of last year. Total RIN generation for the first half of 2025 reached 11.17 billion.
The U.S. EPA on July 17 published updated small refinery exemption (SRE) data, reporting that six new SRE petitions have been filed under the RFS during the past month. A total of 195 SRE petitions are now pending.
European biodiesel producer Greenergy on July 10 confirmed plans to shut down its biodiesel plant in Immingham, Lincolnshire, U.K. The company temporarily suspended operations at the facility earlier this year.
