Research could turn corn stover into biodiesel

March 1, 2004

Researchers at the University of Minnesota have begun a project that investigates the possibility of making "biodiesel" out of corn stover. Junior scientist Erik Hare, who wrote the research proposal, told Biodiesel Magazine that the process involves liquefying corn stover and exploring chemical processes that might turn it into a biodiesel-type fuel. "We have the consistency of honey right now," Hare said. The researchers hope to have reportable progress on the project in six months.
