Saskatchewan officials push for higher renewable fuels mandate

July 1, 2006

The Canadian government should implement a 10 percent renewable fuel mandate by 2008, according to Clay Serby, deputy premier of Saskatchewan and minister of regional economic and cooperative development. The federal government suggested a 5 percent ethanol mandate by 2010. "We think Canada could easily meet [domestic] production needs of 6 billion liters by 2008 or 2009," Serby said. Saskatchewan will meet its 10 percent mandate within a year and a half after the legislation passed.
