A group of nine republican senators representing U.S. oil-producing and refining states are urging U.S. EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler to block attempts to roll back the agency’s’ use of small refinery exemptions (SREs) under the Renewable Fuel Standard.
The republican senators reference a letter sent to Wheeler June 12 by a dozen democratic senators that urged the EPA to end the approval of unjustified SREs and reallocate volumes that have already been waived.
In their statement, Sens. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla.; Ted Cruz, R-Texas; John Barrasso, R-Wyo.; Pat Toomey, R-Penn.; John Kennedy, R-La.’ Roger Wicker, R-Miss.; Mike Lee, R-Utah; Mike Enzi, R-Who.; and Bill Cassidy, R-La., said called the effort to limit SREs an attack on fossil fuels and said SREs are needed to ensure the continued operation of small refineries.
