TCEQ approves B5

March 17, 2008

Two biodiesel blends can now be used in the 110 most-populous counties that are regulated by the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality's Texas Low Emissions Diesel (TxLED) program. The TCEQ approved a B5 blend in late December, following its approval of B20 with additives in February 2007. Previously, the TCEQ had allowed biodiesel producers to blend biodiesel under an alternative emission reduction plan (AERP) while nitrogen oxide emissions were studied. Since the AERP expired Dec. 31, all biodiesel blends must be approved by the TCEQ. Program Specialist Morris Brown said he anticipates more blends to be approved this year.
