Tyson Foods forms Tyson Renewable Energy

January 10, 2007

In November, Tyson Foods announced the formation of Tyson Renewable Energy, a division designed to commercialize the company's supply of animal fat into biofuels, starting in fiscal year 2007. Tyson, which processes and markets chicken, beef and pork, produces 2.3 billion pounds of animal fat per year-enough feedstock for 300 million gallons of biofuels-according to Senior Vice President Jeff Webster. Tyson is also exploring renewable diesel, synthetic diesel, biogas, and litter for electricity and fuel.
