VeraSun Energy Corp., one of the nation's largest ethanol producers, today announced that Jack Nelson has been promoted to the position of director of commodities. Nelson previously held the position of grains manager for VeraSun's ethanol production facility in Aurora, S.D., where he was primarily responsible for corn procurement.
In his new role, Nelson will be responsible for overseeing the company's grains managers, in addition to handling corn origination at the Aurora facility. He will also coordinate natural gas and denaturant supplies for VeraSun biorefineries.
"We are fortunate to be able to leverage Jack's experience and promote him into an extremely important position within the company," said Barry Schaps, senior vice president of sales and logistics. "He has been integral to the success of VeraSun through the relationships he has built with local corn producers, and we are excited to have him expand beyond his role in Aurora, and provide leadership and expertise to others in the company."
A native of Lake Preston, S.D., Nelson joined VeraSun in 2004. He came to the company from Glacial Lakes Energy in Watertown, S.D., where he served as grains manager. Previous to his time at Glacial Lakes Energy, Nelson spent 11 years as general manager of Arlington Farmers Elevator from 1991-2002. Previous to that, he spent nine years as general manager of Oldham Farmers Elevator. In 1995, Nelson received both his state and national certified crop advisor certificates.
