VeraSun Energy Corp. has appointed Troy Shaner to the position of director of process improvement. Since 2004, Shaner has been the plant manager for the company's Fort Dodge, Iowa, ethanol production facility.
In his new position, Shaner will be responsible for initiatives focused on efficiency and increased production. He will also focus on enhancing systems and processes of VeraSun's biorefineries with a focus on improving per bushel yield and energy efficiency. "The ethanol industry has made significant progress over the past five years in how efficiently ethanol is being produced," said Paul Caudill, VeraSun's senior vice president for plant operations. "However, it is important that we continue to work at developing improvements to the production process beyond today's technology. Troy and his team will lead those efforts for VeraSun and we are excited about developing future advancements for our company."
In addition to leading the successful startup of the Fort Dodge, Iowa, facility in October 2005, Shaner also assisted with various plant support opportunities with VeraSun, including the Charles City startup in April 2006.
Shaner, an Iowa native, graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. He previously worked for BASF for 15 years in various production positions at polymer plants.
