Vertellus to supply DuPont with sodium methylate

March 17, 2008

DuPont Chemical Solutions Enterprise and Indianapolis-based Vertellus Specialties Inc. have reached an agreement in which Vertellus will produce sodium methylate from DuPont sodium. As the only distributor of sodium methylate made in North America, DuPont works closely with biodiesel producers to meet their needs. The chemical is the preferred catalyst in biodiesel production because it produces high yields at a low cost. With this agreement, three U.S. plants will produce sodium methylate solution on a full-time basis for DuPont, tripling the company's capacity since May 2007. DuPont is planning to have at least two new U.S. production facilities on line in 2008, including one in Mobile, Ala., in early August. The second site is still being negotiated, according to DuPont spokeswoman Mary Baker.
