World Energy Alternatives LLC is re-opening and upgrading its biodiesel plant in Lakeland, Fla. The 18-mmgy plant is the largest multi-feedstock biodiesel production facility in the United States. The company's customers include the U.S. military, the U.S. Postal Service, large commercial operations and numerous government agencies.
Gene Gebolys, founder and CEO of World Energy, said the Lakeland upgrade affects all aspects of the plant. "The significant new production capacity is a big boost to World Energy," he said. "This allows us to continue giving customers high-quality and consistent products. We pride ourselves on delivering consistent quality and service."
Purada Processing LLC, a World Energy wholly-owned subsidiary, manages the facility. In addition to biodiesel production, Purada will produce refined glycerin.
Gebolys said the plant's ability to use multi-feedstocks helps reduce its reliance on soy oil prices. He expects Purada to help even out the peaks and valleys associated with the price fluctuations. Gebolys pointed out that although World Energy produces a very large amount of non-soy feedstock biodiesel, the company continues to promote the soy industry.
"We are committed to the overall growth of the industry," he said.
