As federal biodiesel policy uncertainty rises, low-cost biodiesel production with new technologies to allow processing of cheaper, lower quality feedstocks, is paramount. Biodiesel Magazine provides a cross-section of new technologies being deployed.

A recently issued U.S. patent, the culmination of more than five years of lab-scale and pilot-plant research at Texas Tech University, provides simplicity and holds great promise for economical, large-scale biodiesel production.

Viesel Fuel, in collaboration with Novozymes and Tactical Fabrication, has developed and implemented a biodiesel production process using enzymes to produce at a rate of 5 MMgy. The company says its process can be easily scaled to larger capacities.
