Mega-shipper tests biodieselMaersk Line, the large Denmark-based liner shipping company that services customers all over the world, used more than 9 million tons of bunker fuel in 2009 and has set a corporate target to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by "20 percent per container moved" by 2017. On Mar. 5, Maersk announced that they were testing biodiesel in hopes that the fuel could help achieve those goals.READ MORE NBB says biodiesel is a pipeline fuelAfter Argonne National Laboratory told Biodiesel Magazine in February that it was developing pipeline-ready biofuels-and that the institution did not consider biodiesel to be one of them-the National Biodiesel Board took offense. "Kinder Morgan is currently moving B5 on the Plantation Pipeline, and B5 has been piped in Europe for years," said Steve Howell, NBB technical director. Earlier this year, the NBB initiated a lawsuit against Tarm USA Inc., a New Hampshire-based company that was using the term "BioHeatUSA" in relation to unrelated products. The recent settlement over Tarm USA's unlicensed use of the word Bioheat calls for discontinued use of the BioHeatUSA term within six months, as well as changing its Web site domain name (www.BioHeatUSA.com).READ MORE CME Group to launch palm oil futuresOn May 23, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group will launch a palm oil futures contract. Palm oil is the most abundant and widely consumed edible oil in the world and has strong ties to the biodiesel industry.
