Mission NewEnergy gets nod from Indian gov't

Mission NewEnergy Ltd., a biodiesel refiner and Jatropha plantation company, recently announced that the Indian Government (Ministry of Finance) has approved further capital investment by Mission NewEnergy into its Indian feedstock business, and to carry on with the original approved activity of being engaged in the contract farming of jatropha and utilization of the jatropha oil for domestic or export markets.READ MORE

Kinder Morgan to redevelop NJ brownfields

Carteret, N.J., Mayor Dan Reiman and Carteret residents were recently joined by representatives from Kinder Morgan and the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) for a ceremony in which a 30-year redevelopment agreement was signed, officially authorizing the company to reutilize 14 acres of "brownfields" in the Borough's Industrial Avenue light industrial district (Kinder Morgan Redevelopment Area). Adding biodiesel storage to the site is part of the redevelopment project.READ MORE

Pall Corp. gets NREL contract

The National Advanced Biofuels Consortium, created by stimulus packages under the federal government's economic recovery efforts, has selected Pall Corp. to develop filtration and seperation processes for a U.S. DOE project to enable fungible biomass-based fuels to be integrated into the existing hydrocarbon fuels infastructure. The company will be an engineering partner on each of six processes for biofuel production being evaluated under the program. These processes include fermentation, catalytic conversion, catalytic fast pyrolysis, hydropyrolysis, hydrothermal liquefaction, and a low-cost, one-step syngas-to-distillates process.READ MORE

Plasma could see biodiesel application

The American Chemical Society's annual meeting taking place in San Francisco publicized a presentation, made by Albin Czernichowski, which detailed using the processes at work in big-screen plasma televisions to make diesel fuel. The GlidArc reactor, designed by Czernichowski, is named for the gliding arc of electricity that produces plasma inside the reactor.READ MORE

Report: 12 billion gallons of biodiesel by 2020

GlobalData, a global market intelligence services company, recently published a report titled, "Global Biodiesel Market Analysis and Forecasts to 2020." Worldwide biodiesel production increased from 253.34 million gallons in 2001 to 4.16 billion gallons in 2009, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 41.9 percent. Supported by governments to increase energy independence and meet rising energy demand, the biodiesel market is expected to produce 11.96 billion gallons of biodiesel in 2020, representing a CAGR of 10.1 percent during 2009 to 2020.READ MORE
